White Ash Special School
Lancashire

White Ash Special School is based in the Lancashire town of Oswaldtwistle to meet the needs of pupils with a diverse range of special educational needs from the ages of 2 to 11 years old.

The team at White Ash approached Live Play Educate to come up with some ideas for one of their outdoor areas that was in need of development. The area was not child friendly with some old tired planters and timber fencing.
Working together with the school we created a design and put a plan in place to provide a new sensory zone for the children to play and learn.

Our talented joinery team made several bespoke items including a corner bench, pergola and sensory panels.
A stainless steel water fall was a focal point of the installation to promote investigation and exploration.

This heavy duty steel archway was installed with sunken planters at each side ready for some climbing plants which, along with the planters under the pergola, will attract wildlife and give the children a chance to explore the natural world.
These sensory panels include a touch panel with 4 different textures, mirrors, chimes, and colour reflectors.

The project was finished off with a green and brown blend of bonded rubber mulch to allow easy and safe access and travel around the space.

It has been an absolute pleasure to work with White Ash School on this project.
